A PRESENCE

There is a storm outside and I am indoors alone. But what do I know?

Hauntology includes “lost futures,” but it is also about Identity and History. As a portmenteau of ‘haunting and ontology’ it brings in layers of meaning into the vocabulary itself. The actual parallel process of producing a body of work whilst writing may lead to new directions within practice. The tangible tension at present is whether one maintains an allegiance to the contextual paradigm under scrutiny within the ongoing making?

Considering ‘Vanitas still life’ painting. Thinking about mixed media experimentation. Working through such questions within the continued making. The storm outside at time of writing this entry reminds me of the fragility of our shared infrastructure and day to day habitual patterns. The cracks within the Thwaites glacier in Antartica further signal ongoing flux in our ecosystem.

Is this perhaps additional subject matter for artistic process to weave into ‘lost futures’?
